Well, if you are in the US, I hope you just had a lovely Thanksgiving.  My tummy is still full of all the yummies and my feet still hurt with all the cooking that needed doing.  I have no plans to shop except online, but do be safe if you are out and about chasing sales today.

Hopefully, you’ll find the time to whip up these two blocks this round.  Pretty simple, but I’m sure partial seams are new to some of you.  Never fear!  I’m here to hold your hand and show you how unscary this really is.  🙂

This Week’s Task

We are working on Jada and Alana this round.  Alana is from my original pattern, but I did change up all the cuts.  Jada is a new block created just this past summer.  She is so much fun!  Well, both are.  Let’s get started!

Jada

Jada is such a fun block.  She does use partial seams though.  When I think of partial seams, I think of scary Lone Star quilts and adding those tricky corner pieces.  This is nothing like that.  This is simple and easy and the video tutorial will help you bunches if you get stuck.

Jada is my take on a pinwheel block.  I’ve used Pure in Raw Gold, Floral Elements in Spicy Brown, Fields of Goldenrod, and Aerial Clay.

Tips + Thoughts

  • Pressing seams is important on this block.  One of my testers said that she preferred pressing towards the center, but I’ve written the pattern to press them open.  Do what you prefer.
  • Starch, starch, starch.
  • Diagonal seam tape makes this one move quicker.

If you prefer to foundation paper piece instead of the way I’ve written the pattern, Nicole Buckley has generously provided us with a paper piecing pattern (you will need to already know how to paper piece).  Find the paper piecing pattern for Jada here.

Alana

Alana is your simple block this round.  When I designed her I was thinking bow tie or just a bow, but the more I like her the more I see a thimble.  I guess she can be whatever you want her to be.  🙂

My fabrics are:  Add it Up in cactus, Passionate Spirit in salmon, Illusion in pink and Rose Tiles.

I’m thinking I need to bring in a little more yellow gold and that should do it!  One more block with the darker brown too.  How are you doing?  Are you loving your work?  I’m so loving making this quilt with you!

Hugs and happy sewing!
