Here are some videos to get you making clear bags with success.
These are MEGA EASY to sew. Seriously.
Get the right tools for the job and YOU can do ANYTHING!
I always advise using a teflon (non-stick) foot when sewing vinyl.
I use a regular size 80 needle.
NEVER press a hot iron onto vinyl, it will melt.
Some people like to put wax paper underneath the vinyl, to slide along the machine bed – but I’ve never needed to do that. I don’t find it’s *that* sticky.
I use a hair dryer when turning my vinyl projects right sides out.
The leather straps I carry in the shop are easily sewn. I don’t change my needle, foot, or anything when sewing them onto bags. If you choose, you can use rivets or hardware, but it’s not necessary.
Glitter vinyl is available in clear, black. purple, pink, and teal green HERE in my shop.
Kits are ready to shipin the shop here for version one, two, and three. Version one pictured above, version two has D rings and lobster swivel hooks (first pic in this post), and Version 3 has binding all around the top edge and is smaller.
Version 3 is same as Version one except bind the top edge of vinyl.
Video for version 3 coming in the next couple of days. I had to take a break to make Halloween costumes for my kids. 😀
You can use 10 or 12 gauge for these bags, but I tend to favor 12 gauge. Both will work however.
🙂

You made it! We are about to have a finished quilt top! These are exciting times, I know. I am positively jumping up and down and squealing. I love a finished quilt top. We aren’t snuggling with out quilt just yet, but we’ve met a threshold. It’s time to pat yourself on the back and be proud. Maybe even strut around like a peacock. 🙂

5-1/2″ CURVED TIP SCISSORS
Curved tips and fine points are the foremost features in this 5 1/2″ Curved Tip Embroidery and Applique Scissors. Made from durable Japanese stainless steel, these scissors get you closer to the surface.
Melanie’s Tip – These are another favorite snips. I particular like them for handwork. That curved tip is nice when snipping threads and not cutting into your work. Another thing I like about these scissors is that they are as smooth as butter and cut all the way to the tip.
This Week’s Task
All that’s left to do is sew all our blocks together. Eeeek!! I’m not going to lie this is one of my favorite parts. We’ve done the hard work, and now we watch it come together.
Finished Quilt Top
There’s not much for me to ramble on about this time around. I’ve said and shared all the things I can think of. So let’s just chat about what’s next.
You might need backing and batting for your quilt, don’t forget that Meander + Make has batting by the yard in my favorite: Warm and Natural. We also have plenty of fabrics to choose for backing. I’ve got a coupon code just for you! Use code SAWTOOTH at checkout and receive 20% off any order. This coupon is good only once per customer and it will expire on 1/15/20. It will also work on the personalized quilt label made especially for this quilt.

Let’s not forget about our amazing sponsor, Havel’s Sewing, who made this quilt along possible and free to you. Show them some support the next time you need rotary blades or a mat or any of my favorite snips and scissors. Use my coupon code at Havel’s and receive $7 off any purchase of $25 or more. My code there is SOUTHERNCHARM7.
And finally, finally, finally! Many of you have been asking about the next quilt along. I do have one planned and you can read more about it here.

Thanks for making this fun and for encouraging me and each other. The world is a much more beautiful place when we are all scattering kindness and showing our support of each other. I’ve felt that that these last 4+ months and I truly hope you did too.

I hope your holiday week was the best ever! Maybe you are done with all the gallivanting around and having an easy day for yourself and might even do a little sewing. I certainly am! It’s good timing because this round is our easiest pattern yet. We are only filling in the gaps this time with simple four patches. So get to fabric choosing and then to chain piecing! You can worry about getting your house in order and the holiday decor put away later. 🙂

4 3/4″ DURA-SNIPS WITH NECK STRAP
Extra sharp and durable high carbon forged steel blades. Easy squeeze action for precise thread snipping for embroidery, sewing, more. Fits into a safety storage cap on a convenient neck strap.
Melanie’s Tip – These are my chain piecing snips. I keep these right by my machine and after I have my long piece of chain piecing these are what I use to snip all those little threads. They are speedy and get the job done. I wrote a post about them here last year.
This Week’s Task
We’ve got fifteen 4-patches to complete. This is that bit of negative space between each block. It’s also a chance to get your scrappy low volume on! Or not, just whatever you want. 🙂 This community loves to let everyone do their thing, whatever that may be. So feel free to go wild and different!
4-Patches
After all the blocks we’ve made together, I know this is one that you totally got! Easy peasy lemon squeezy! But let’s touch on a few things, before I leave you with it. You don’t have to go scrappy like me, you might want to just use different shades of white and cream solids. There’s a few under the #littlemisssawtoothqal that did just that and they look amazing. You don’t even have to go white. Under the hashtag, I’ve also seen one in black scrappy and one in yellow scrappy. They are gorgeous! I’ve seen a few already that used a more traditional 4-patch with only two colors which ends up looking a bit like a chain and changes up the look of the quilt. Those looked good too, so get creative and do your thing!
Tips for Scrappy Low Volume
For the most scrappy look, use ten different fabrics on this one.
I wrote a blog post here about how I use low volumes and what I like to think about when deciding on fabric.
I always like to add a fabric or two that really pops out from the others.

Well I’m ready to get my 4-patches on the design wall and stare at them for a few days and then get to sewing them together. But we will talk about that more next round. Until then, take care and happy sewing!

Hello, hello! I’m hoping this post finds you in the midst of a lovely holiday season. The busyness of the season may cause many of you to fall a bit behind, but please don’t worry about that. Get things done in your own time and remember we are giving away prizes every two weeks to a winner who posts their progress, staying caught up on all the blocks is not a MUST. I know that many others have jumped ahead with finished quilt tops and I just want to remind everyone that Ginger Quilter is offering to quilt your Little Miss Sawtooth quilt with a 20% discount when you use code SAWTOOTH.
Let’s get to our last two star blocks, shall we?!

ROTARY CUTTER BLADE – 3 PACK
When your blade finally gets dull, you can replace it in a snap with the Rotary Cutter Replacement blades. Just unscrew the blade from the back of the cutter and remove the dull one. Slide the new blade into place and replace the screw. Voila! Back to beautiful, precise cutting.
Melanie’s Tip – Just want to make sure you know that Havel’s 45mm blades will fit any rotary cutter and the same goes with the 60mm blades too!
This Week’s Task
Today we are working on Juliana and Sofia. Two very fun blocks! One traditional and one brand new.
Juliana
Juliana is a traditional churn dash block. The churn dash was one of the very first blocks I ever made when I first started quilting, and it’s a favorite of SO MANY quilters. I happen to have a sweet little churn dash quilt from my grandmother’s closet on my guest bed that I keep meaning to show you!
If you prefer to foundation paper piece instead of the way I’ve written the pattern, Nicole Buckley has generously provided us with a paper piecing pattern (you will need to already know how to paper piece). Find the paper piecing pattern for Juliana here.
Sofia
So Sofia is one of those blocks that you make and have to trim down. Think something similar to a granny square. You’ll need a 6.5″ square ruler, but I’m sure you have something that will work on hand, even the HST Square Up Ruler will work if you have that. If you take a look at the diagram, she’s not confusing. The block is very tight though. A scant 1/4″ seam allowance will be most helpful. I lost some of the corners in my own block, so I thought I’d warn you.

So this will bring all the stars to a finish! If you’ve made it this far, give yourself a big pat on the back. You deserve it! That was a lot of different blocks! It’s easy breezing from this point. I’d love it if you posted a picture of all your stars together over on Instagram. I’m so excited to see them and ooh and aah over them with you.

Well, if you are in the US, I hope you just had a lovely Thanksgiving. My tummy is still full of all the yummies and my feet still hurt with all the cooking that needed doing. I have no plans to shop except online, but do be safe if you are out and about chasing sales today.
Hopefully, you’ll find the time to whip up these two blocks this round. Pretty simple, but I’m sure partial seams are new to some of you. Never fear! I’m here to hold your hand and show you how unscary this really is. 🙂

6.5 X 6.5 INCH SQUARE FABRIC RULER
Havel’s Square Fabric Ruler is a fantastic addition to any fabric artist’s tool kit. Make quick measurements, angles, and squares with ease. Available in 6.5″ and 12.5″ sizes.
Melanie’s Tip – I haven’t had these long, just since earlier this year, but I love them. I’m using both the 6.5″ and the 12.5″ often. I’ve always used a long rectangle ruler for my cutting, but lately have been taking advantage of the smaller size rulers. Maneuvering the ruler when doing smaller cuts is simply made much easier.
This Week’s Task
We are working on Jada and Alana this round. Alana is from my original pattern, but I did change up all the cuts. Jada is a new block created just this past summer. She is so much fun! Well, both are. Let’s get started!
Jada
Jada is such a fun block. She does use partial seams though. When I think of partial seams, I think of scary Lone Star quilts and adding those tricky corner pieces. This is nothing like that. This is simple and easy and the video tutorial will help you bunches if you get stuck.
Pressing seams is important on this block. One of my testers said that she preferred pressing towards the center, but I’ve written the pattern to press them open. Do what you prefer.
If you prefer to foundation paper piece instead of the way I’ve written the pattern, Nicole Buckley has generously provided us with a paper piecing pattern (you will need to already know how to paper piece). Find the paper piecing pattern for Jada here.
Alana
Alana is your simple block this round. When I designed her I was thinking bow tie or just a bow, but the more I like her the more I see a thimble. I guess she can be whatever you want her to be. 🙂

I’m thinking I need to bring in a little more yellow gold and that should do it! One more block with the darker brown too. How are you doing? Are you loving your work? I’m so loving making this quilt with you!
